Let’s hope it’s not too long before they come back. He's walking along with his soul in his lungs. Don't ever think you're the only one When times are tough in your new age. In joyful expectation they’d entered, in pools of ecstatic sweat they left. Don't ever think you're the only one When times are tough in your new age. Once there, they banged their good feelings home with a thrilling Soldier Girl. The applause that echoed round their departure is only matched by that which met their arrival for an encore, as the band wound through the crowd from the back of the hall to the stage. It all culminated with a wonderful Grecian frieze for When The Fool Becomes A King that felt like a gasp of air. Hold Me Now exploded across the ecstatic audience before It’s The Sun smiled wider than the room, and Hanging Around marched and swayed in its joy while Two Thousand Places spun a whirlwind through the throng of jumping revellers. The songs from Together We’re Heavy slipped effortlessly in next to the well-loved favourites of The Beginning Stages. It may feel like the same show, but the subtle shift from ramshackle joy to elevated ecstasy has made them finally look like a band with longevity. What they have learnt in their absence is a touch of stagecraft. The robes are still in place, though now their hues are reds, yellows and greens, rather than the simple white the chorus still belt out epic invigoration, only now it comes with chaotic choreography and plenty of hair throwing all multitude of instruments cram the stage, but they are held aloft, thrown in the air and generally treated with rapturous disrespect and the tunes, sweltering under the Spree’s shining goodwill, still sound like an orgy of hippy ideals and good vibrations. "Sorry it’s been so long," grinned Spree lynchpin Tim DeLaughter as he took centre stage, but the truth is things haven’t changed much since the last time they popped into Manchester a year and a half ago. For the duration of their shows, you are the sand and they are the ocean and sky. Crashing waves of joy gradually build to tidal capacity while rays of musical sunshine bake down.
